The 14th European Basketball Championships the men ( officially: Euro Basket 1965 ) was from 30 May to 10 June 1965 in the Soviet Union instead. Host USSR secured their eighth title with their fifth European Championship triumph in a row. Silver went to Yugoslavia , Poland won the bronze medal.
Venues
The games were played in the Moscow Sports Palace Luschniki and in the Sports Palace in Tbilisi .
Preliminary round
The preliminary round was held in two groups of eight teams each. The winner of a game received two points, the loser one point. If a game was tied at the end of regular time, there was extra time. In the event of a tie, the direct comparison decided against each other.
The two first and second place winners in each group were set for the semifinals and were already fourth in the European Championship, the two third and fourth placed qualified for the small semifinals and played for EM place 5. The fifth and sixth place qualified for the participation in the European Championship rank 9, while the two seventh and eighth placed places in each group had to play the European Championship places 13 to 16 among themselves.
