1983 European Basketball Championship

The 24th European Basketball Championships the men ( officially: Euro Basket 1985 ) took place from 5 to 16 June 1985 for the second time in the Federal Republic of Germany instead. The record winner from the Soviet Union secured the gold medal for the 14th time . Czechoslovakia won silver , the bronze medal went to defending champion Italy .

Venues

The group A preliminary round matches were played in the Karlsruhe Europahalle . The group B games took place in the Wilhelm-Dopatka-Halle in Leverkusen . All games from the quarterfinals onwards were played in the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle in Stuttgart .

Preliminary round

The preliminary round was held in two groups of six teams each. The winner of a game received two points, the loser one point. If a game was tied at the end of regular time, there was extra time. In the event of a tie, the direct comparison decided against each other.

The first four teams in each group qualified for the quarter-finals and already had 8th place in the European Championship, the remaining teams played in the final round for 9th place in the European Championship.
