The Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle (short: Schleyer-Halle ) is the largest multi-purpose hall in Baden-Württemberg . The hall is located in the Bad Cannstatt district of Stuttgart in the NeckarPark, about 200 m west of the Mercedes-Benz Arena . In between are the Carl Benz Center and the Porsche Arena . It is connected to the latter through a common forum. The operator of both halls is the event company in Stuttgart .
Construction and capacity
The hall was opened in 1983 and named after the former employer association president Hanns Martin Schleyer , who was kidnapped and murdered in 1977 by the Red Army Faction (RAF) . With 4000 m² the hall has one of the largest interiors in Europe. The capacity was initially around 10,000 seats or around 13,000 standing and sitting places. The hall has an integrated cycling track (length: 285.71 meters). 1991 and 2003 here found UCI Track Cycling World Championships take place.
From 2005 to 2006 the arena was rebuilt and modernized for 12.2 million euros. The cycling track was built over with two curved grandstands, and a second grandstand was built at the head end. The capacity is now a maximum of 15,500 seats and standing places. 8200 seats are built in. The construction of the joint foyer with the Porsche-Arena also created space for five catering stations and a new restaurant in the area of the forum.
The old riding arena is the predecessor of a multi-purpose hall .
Structural engineers were the engineering office Peter and Lochner ( Jörg Peter ) and architects Siegel, Wonnenberg and Partners.
