IPFilter , also known as ipf , is a packet filter , software that can be used as a firewall or NAT to translate Internet addresses .

IPFilter is a very portable packet filter. He runs u. a. on the operating systems FreeBSD , NetBSD , Linux , SunOS , Solaris , HP-UX , Tru64 UNIX , IRIX , and QNX .

IPFilter has been written by Darren Reed since the early 1990s; Version 1.0 was released on April 22, 1993. IPFilter is actively being further developed as open source software (license BSD-like). Current is the 5.1 series, which was published on May 9, 2010.
