Jörg Peter (engineer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jörg Peter (born December 12, 1931 in Schmalkalden ) is a German civil engineer.

Jörg Peter came to the West after graduating from high school in 1951 because he was unable to study civil engineering in what was then the GDR. After catching up on a few high-school diplomas, he studied civil engineering at the TH Stuttgart from 1953 , where he was Fritz Leonhardt's assistant and first doctoral student . In 1964 he received his doctorate. In 1965 he founded the engineering office Peter and Lochner in Stuttgart with his college friend Georg Lochner . They specialized in reinforced concrete tanks and silos, an area in which Peter made a name for himself. The first foreign order was placed in 1972 (a silo in Nice). There were also industrial buildings (e.g. kiln line 8 in the Lengerich cement works), bridges (e.g. Wieslochtalbrücke in Schorndorf , the office won the competition in 1989) and high-rise buildings. The engineering office won the 1978 competition for the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle in Stuttgart (at that time the largest sports hall in Europe) with the architects Siegel, Wonnenberg and Partner . From the 1990s, the office also designed airport towers. In 2004 he retired from his engineering office for reasons of age.

In 1974 Peter (like Lochner) was approved as a structural engineering test engineer.

In 1992 he received the test order for the new building of the Dresden Frauenkirche .

From 1975 to 1994 he was also professor for statics and solid construction at the Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences .

In 1990 he was one of the founders and until 1998 chairman of the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Engineers.
