IC 899 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E0 in the constellation Virgo to the ecliptic . It is an estimated 286 million light years from the Milky Way and about 40,000 light years in diameter .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 5130 , NGC 5203 , NGC 5232 , NGC 5241 .
The object was discovered on June 10, 1893 by Stéphane Javelle .
