Valentín de la Sierra

Valentín Avila Ramírez (* February 1898 on an estate of the municipality Huejuquilla el Alto , Jalisco , † September 1926 in Milpillas de la Sierra, Valparaiso , Zacatecas ), commonly known as Valentín de la Sierra , was a Mexican Cristero that the Cristero War on Fought sides of the insurgents under the command of Cristero General Pedro Quintanar and led a unit of about 15 men. In September 1926 he was captured and executed by government forces. Its additional name De la Sierra results from the fact that the region in which Valentín lived forms the beginning of the Sierra Madre Occidental .

Corrido

Valentín gained fame through the Corrido Valentín de la Sierra , dedicated to him , which was recorded by several artists known in Mexico such as Antonio Aguilar , Vicente Fernández and Ana Gabriel . Inspired by the song, there is also a film of the same name from 1968 with Antonio Aguilar in the lead role.
