The corrido is a literary and musical genre that is particularly widespread in Mexican mestizo culture . It has its origins in 15th century Spanish romances .

Originally, the corrido was one of the most important means of disseminating information in Mexico: the linguistic and musical simplicity of the corrido were very well suited to the requirements of oral transmission. After the arrival of the mass media in Mexican society in the second half of the 20th century, the function and thus the corrido itself changed fundamentally.

Corridos mostly play in the Mexican lower class and are about a notorious bandit or hero. A love story is often woven into the plot. The widespread sub-genre of narcocorridos takes place in the drug environment.

construction

The prologue or the greeting of the audience by the author or singer is followed by the narration of the anecdote . The corrido ends with the “moral of the story” and the author's farewell.

rhythm

Corridos often have a rhythm that resembles the European waltz .

occupation

If corridos are designed musically, a typically Mexican line-up always takes place, i. that is, they come in the styles Norteña , Banda , Mariachi , Duranguense or Tejano .
