IC 916 is a compact galaxy of Hubble type C in the constellation Bootes the northern sky . It is an estimated 378 million light years from the Milky Way and about 75,000 light years in diameter .
The galaxies IC 909 and IC 4322 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on June 6, 1866 by Truman Henry Safford .
