IC 909 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBa in the constellation Bear Guardian in the northern sky . It is an estimated 363 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 40,000 light years in diameter .
The galaxy IC 916 is located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on June 6, 1866 by Truman Henry Safford .
