IC 893 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sab in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 268 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxies NGC 5192 , NGC 5197 , NGC 5202 , IC 892 are in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on July 4, 1893 .
