NGC 5197 is a 14.3 mag bright lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 284 million light-years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 50,000 ly. a. the galaxies NGC 5184 , NGC 5192 , NGC 5196 , NGC 5202 .
The object was discovered by Albert Marth on April 12, 1864 .
