NGC 5184 is a 12.8 mag bright bar -spiral-shaped radio galaxy of the Hubble type "SBc" in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 175 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 105,000 ly.
In the same area of ​​the sky are the galaxies NGC 5192 , NGC 5196 , NGC 5197 , NGC 5202 , among others .

The object was discovered on March 21, 1784 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, which she labeled “Two. The preceding F, pS, iF. The following pB, pL, iF, bM ”described. The former galaxy is NGC 5183 .
