NGC 5191 is a 14.1 mag bright spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sb in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 290 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 75,000 light-years across .
The galaxies NGC 5165 , NGC 5162 , NGC 5178 , NGC 5179 are in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by George Washington Hough on May 5, 1883 .
