NGC 5215 is a gravitationally bound double galaxy; NGC 5215A is 13.2 mag bright, NGC 5215B has an apparent magnitude of 12.9 mag. Both are lenticular galaxies of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation of the hounds . NGC 5215B as the brighter of the two galaxies was discovered on June 3, 1836 by John Herschel with an 18-inch reflecting telescope, which "eF and S; has two stars less than 1 diameter of neb, distant one (by diagram) south and one preceding "noted.
