NGC 5217 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E1 in the constellation hair Berenice the northern sky . It is estimated to be 359 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 160,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 5190 , IC 894 , IC 897 .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on May 7, 1826 .
