IC 894 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is an estimated 291 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 95,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 5217 , NGC 5172 , NGC 5180 , IC 897 .
The object was discovered on June 23, 1892 by the French astronomer Stéphane Javelle .
