IC 879 = IC 4222 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBab in the constellation Hydra south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 101 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 45,000 light years across. Together with nine other galaxies, it forms the NGC 5061 group ( LGG 341 ).
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 5051 , NGC 5078 , NGC 5101 , IC 874 .

The object was discovered by Frank Muller on February 16, 1888 .
