IC 862 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E3 in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 411 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 50,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies IC 864 , IC 867 , IC 870 .
The object was discovered on June 11, 1891 by Stéphane Javelle .
