IC 851 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sb in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 117 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 35,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies IC 856 , IC 4163 , IC 4181 , IC 4183 .
The object was discovered on February 25, 1892 by Herbert Couper Wilson .
