IC 861 is a lenticular galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Canes Venatici in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 513 million light years from the Milky Way and about 120,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered by Rudolf Spitaler on May 5, 1891 .
