IC 855 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E5 in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 346 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 110,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 4975 , NGC 4989 , NGC 4990 , NGC 5015 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on May 15, 1893 .
