IC 871 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sb in the constellation Virgo to the ecliptic . It is an estimated 277 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 140,000 light years in diameter. Together with IC 873 and IC 876 , it probably forms a gravitationally bound galaxy trio.
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on June 5, 1893 .
