IC 857 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 302 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 80,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 5053 , IC 858 , IC 859 , among others .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on July 23, 1892 .
