IC 845 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E0 in the constellation Virgo to the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 476 million light years from the Milky Way and approximately 45,000 light years in diameter .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on May 3, 1889 .
