IC 833 is a 14.5 mag bright elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E3 in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 788 million light years from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light years across.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4775 , NGC 4786 , NGC 4813 , IC 3908 .
The object was discovered by Lewis A. Swift on March 25, 1889 .
