IC 833 is a 14.5 mag bright elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E3 in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 788 million light years from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light years across.

In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 4775 , NGC 4786 , NGC 4813 , IC 3908 .

The object was discovered by Lewis A. Swift on March 25, 1889 .
