IC 815 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E in the constellation Virgo to the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 595 million light years from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light years in diameter. Together with IC 3756 and IC 3760 , it probably forms a gravitationally bound trio of galaxies.
The galaxies IC 3720 , IC 3722 , IC 3775 , IC 3779 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on April 23, 1892 .
