IC 831 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 287 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 60,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 4747 , NGC 4787 , NGC 4789 , IC 832 .
The object was discovered by Rudolf Spitaler on February 25, 1892 .
