IC 842 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is an estimated 326 million light-years from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 115,000 ly. The galaxy is a member of the Coma galaxy cluster Abell 1656 .
The galaxies IC 843 , IC 3991 , IC 4032 , IC 4088 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Truman Henry Safford on May 3, 1866 .
