IC 854 is a circular bar- shaped spiral galaxy of the Hubble type R / SBbc in the constellation Coma Berenices in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 318 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 75,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 4979 , NGC 5016 , IC 4198 , IC 4202 .
The object was discovered on July 19, 1892 by Stéphane Javelle .
