NGC 5016 is a 12.9 likes bright barred spiral galaxy with an active galactic nucleus from Hubble type SBBC in the constellation Coma Berenices the northern sky . It is estimated to be 117 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 55,000 ly. Together with NGC 5012 and PGC 45884 , it forms the small galaxy group LGG 336.
In the same area of the sky there are u. a. the galaxies IC 854 , IC 860 , IC 4202 .
The object was discovered on April 10, 1785 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "pB, S".
