NGC 4996 is a 13.1 mag bright low surface brightness galaxy of the Hubble type SB0-a in the constellation of Virgo in the northern sky . The object is an estimated 240 million light years from the Milky Way .
It was discovered by Albert Marth on March 28, 1864 .
