NGC 5003 is a 14.3 mag bright spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sa in the constellation of the hounds . It is around 479 million light years away from the Milky Way .
The object was discovered on April 9, 1787 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "vF, pS, lbM".
