NGC 4983 is a 14.0 mag bright lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0-a in the constellation Haar der Berenike , located approximately 293 million light years from the Milky Way. It belongs to the Coma galaxy cluster and was discovered on April 11, 1785 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who only described it as “vF”.
