NGC 4992 is a 13.6 mag bright spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sa in the constellation of Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 335 million light years from the Milky Way and about 120,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on April 4, 1831 by John Herschel .
