Doroteo Flores

Doroteo Flores ( Doroteo Guamuch "Mateo" Flores ; born February 11, 1922 in Mixco ; † August 11, 2011 ibid) was a Guatemalan long-distance runner .

At the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1946 in Barranquilla, he won the 10,000 m and half marathon and won bronze over 5000 m . In 1950 in Guatemala City he won silver over 5000 m and in the half marathon. At the Pan American Games in Buenos Aires in 1951 , he was fifth over 10,000 m.

On April 5, 1952, he won a marathon in Guatemala City with his personal best of 2:30:18 h. Two weeks later he won the Boston Marathon in 2:31:54 hours, and in the Helsinki Olympic Games marathon he came in 22nd place in 2:35:40 hours.

In 1954 he won gold over 5000 m and silver over 10,000 m in the half marathon and silver over 10,000 m at the Central America and Caribbean Games in Mexico City. The following year he won the 1955 Pan American Games in Mexico City in the marathon and was sixth in the 10,000 m.

The Estadio Mateo Flores in Guatemala City has been named in his honor since 1952.
