NGC 4997 is a 12.9 likes bright lenticular galaxy of Hubble type e-S0 in the constellation Virgo the northern sky . It is estimated to be 101 million light years from the Milky Way .

The object was discovered on March 28, 1878 by Sherburne Wesley Burnham .
