NGC 5020 is a 12.1 mag barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble-type SBbc in the constellation of Virgo , about 149 million light years away from the Milky Way. Together with PGC 45741 and PGC 45750 , it forms the small galaxy group LGG 335.
It was discovered on April 12, 1784 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "F, pL, lbM, R, r".
