NGC 5037 is a 12.2 mag bright spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sa in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 128 million light years from the Milky Way .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 5030 , NGC 5035 , NGC 5044 , NGC 5047 .
The object was discovered on December 31, 1785 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as “F, lE, 1.5 ′ long”.
