NGC 5048 is a 12.7 likes bright galaxy from the Hubble type e-S0 in the constellation of Hydra and approximately 189 million light-years from the Milky Way center.
It was discovered on March 30, 1835 by John Herschel with an 18-inch reflecting telescope, which "pretty faint, round; has another nebula Nf, difference in RA = approx. 20 seconds, difference in PD = approx. 5 ′ “noted. The second galaxy named is NGC 5051 .
