NGC 5053 is a 9.8 mag bright globular cluster in the constellation Haar der Berenike . Its distance is 53,500 light years . Compared to other globular clusters, its stars are much less concentrated, as NGC 5053 only has 3,500 stars over a diameter of about 160 light years . In the night sky it is about 1 ° east of M53 .
NGC 5053 was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on March 14, 1784 .
