NGC 5074 is a 14.0 mag bright spiral galaxy with pronounced emission lines of the Hubble type Sb in the constellation Hounds in the northern sky . It is an estimated 252 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 5057 , NGC 5065 , IC 4225 , IC 4226 .
The object was discovered on March 13, 1785 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "eF, vS".
