NGC 5057 is a 13.5 mag bright lens-shaped galaxy of the Hubble-type S0 in the constellation Haar der Berenike in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 264 million light years from the Milky Way and about 100,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 5041 , NGC 5056 , NGC 5065 , NGC 5074 .
The object was discovered on March 13, 1785 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, which "Two. The preceding vF, vS. The following 7 ′ or 8 ′ Nf the first, vF, vS ”noted. The former is NGC 5056 , the second galaxy is NGC 5057 .
