NGC 5043 is an open star cluster (type definition "OCL") in the constellation Centaur and about 970 parsecs from Earth. It was discovered on June 7, 1837 by John Herschel with an 18-inch reflector telescope, which was called “cluster VIII; oblong; 10 ′ by 7 ′, of loose scattered stars 11th mag ”noted.
