NGC 5031 is a 13.5 mag bright lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 122 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 65,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 5030 , NGC 5035 , NGC 5038 , NGC 5044 , among others .
The object was discovered by Edward Singleton Holden on March 17, 1881 .
