NGC 5026 is an 11.6 mag barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBa in the constellation Centaur , about 151 million light years away from the Milky Way.
It was discovered on June 5, 1834 by John Herschel with an 18-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "pB, R, bM, 40 arcseconds". On a second observation he noted "pB, pL, R, gbM, 50 arcseconds"; his third note was "pB, pL, R, gbM, 50 arcseconds, has a star 7th mag 3 degrees Nf distance = 7.5 ′".
