Messier 53 (also known as NGC 5024 ) is a galactic globular cluster in the constellation Coma Berenices with an apparent dimension of 13 ′ and an apparent magnitude of 7.7 mag. By analyzing the RR Lyrae variables in M53, a distance of around 18 kpc (approx. 60 kLj) was determined, its diameter is around 200 light years.
