NGC 5046 is a 13.5 mag bright elliptical dwarf galaxy of the Hubble type E1 in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 94 million light years from the Milky Way and about 20,000 light years across.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 5035 , NGC 5044 , NGC 5047 , NGC 5049 .
The object was discovered by Edward Singleton Holden on May 17, 1881 .
