NGC 5046 is a 13.5 mag bright elliptical dwarf galaxy of the Hubble type E1 in the constellation Virgo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 94 million light years from the Milky Way and about 20,000 light years across.
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 5035 , NGC 5044 , NGC 5047 , NGC 5049 .

The object was discovered by Edward Singleton Holden on May 17, 1881 .
