NGC 5056 is a 13.0 likes bright spiral galaxy with an active galactic nucleus from Hubble type Sc in the constellation Coma Berenices the northern sky . It is estimated to be 251 million light years from the Milky Way and about 135,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 5041 , NGC 5057 , NGC 5065 , NGC 5074 .
The object was discovered on March 13, 1785 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, which was called “Two. The preceding vF, vS. The following 7 ′ or 8 ′ Nf the first, vF, vS ”noted. The former is NGC 5056, the second galaxy is NGC 5057 .
