NGC 5073 is a 12.6 likes bright barred spiral galaxy with extensive star formation from Hubble type SBc in the constellation Virgo to the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 118 million light years from the Milky Way and about 120,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 5094 and IC 4221 .

The object was discovered on February 8, 1785 by Wilhelm Herschel with an 18.7-inch reflector telescope, who described it as "vF, much extended Sf - Np, very narrow".
